Cearnacháin Clan Regional Representatives |
The decendants of Cearnacháin are scattered across the world, and one of the primary interests of Clann Cearnachian is to re-unite them. As a means to that end, we are hoping to find Clan Representatives from each and every region where those decendants are found today. New Zealand Lauren Kernohan Turangi, Bay of Plenty New Zealand Email lauren@kcl.net.nz | Took office: 08/2005 Office expires: 12/2007 | | I was born in 1958 in Auckland NZ, and married into the family in 1977 to David KERNOHAN the son of Frank and Kathleen KERNOHAN before the interest in genealogy or family history. Frank's parents David and Letitia nee ROBINSON were the immigrants into NZ from Ireland arriving in 1921. David and I have three children, Jeff, Sally and Debbie. David's parents along with friends started Omori Heights Contracting Ltd in 1971 doing civil and agricultural contracting. In 1983 after David and I spent 5 years in Australia we came back to Turangi, at the southern end of Lake Taupo. Frank passed away in 2002 and now David and Kath are the Directors of the company. I run the administrative side of the company. In 1996 I became interested in genealogy and started with my maternal grandmothers line. As I live in a rural area I decided to move on and cover other areas as it made the trips to larger centers and repositories more productive, hence the beginning of the research into the KERNOHAN family and name here in NZ and in Ireland. While researching in NZ, as the name isn't that very common I have extracted the name from official documents and have now started doing the same on the variants like KERNAHAN and KERNAGHAN etc. For the Irish research I have been helped greatly by Hugh KERNOHAN and Frank KERNOHAN. I forward on info that I have from NZ to them and they forward to me, it has been a great way of tying in all the lines of the 'KERNOHAN' spelling. I thoroughly enjoy the research and linking families back together, but unfortunately the hobby is now an addiction and a passion, and most days I will be doing some type of family history. Unfortunately time doesn't always allow me to do what I want and some things do get put on the back burner, so there is the never ending 'to dos' or 'get round to its'! I am a member of the NZ Society of Genealogists and last year was awarded a 'Service Award' for the work that I have done for the local branch. I believing in the providing and preserving of family histories for the generations ahead of us. I also believe in the accuracy of work, and the source documentation to supporting the accuracy.
| USA, West of the Missisippi Traci Cannon Eureka, California Email tacconsult@gmail.com | Took office: 12/2006 Office expires: 12/2007 | | After a long career in accounting and business management locally, I became a business software consultant for a large national software developer, a thriving career which continues today. It was in 2000 during a lull in my consulting business, and at the request of my father Colbert Cannon, that I began doing genealogical research. One day after my initial post on rootsweb.com inquiring about my GGG Grandfather Nelson Cannon, a gentleman named Ralph Strong contacted me with detailed information that positively identified his Nelson Cannon with mine. Within a week Ralph had mailed me a copy of the 1932 Almon Brown-Cannon compilation depicting 200 years of the Cannon/Carnahan family line back to the 1718 immigration of Samuel Carnahan. Soon after I was in contact with the renowned researcher Bobby Carnahan, and other important Carnahan researchers and was in possession of a vast amount of information. Needless to say, I was in shock to have learned so much so quickly. It is of the John Cannon line I learned, son of Samuel Carnahan, that my distinct family line arose. Over the next year I painstakingly compiled my own database based on information gathered from both the Almon Brown-Cannon and Bob Carnahan reports. Combined with my own research and interviews with living family members I was able to define and document a definitive path from the historical Carnahans in these reports to modern day members of my family. My genealogical research progressed to successfully documenting 9 family lines in total, some more extensively than others. On Christmas 2001 I gifted a personalized publication to each member of my family of my compilation of data and lore, along with a CD of hundreds of documents and images, and a book list of all of the family publications discovered along the way. This was one of the most exciting and rewarding projects of my life and although my research continues, I have returned my focus now to my demanding career. I am honored to accept the responsibility of Carnahan Clan Regional Representative, and be amongst the likes of Bess Carnahan, Bobby Carnahan, and other esteemed members. |
